The knauf family come from germany, and they are joined by italian director tommaso alessandri and the famed french oenologist stéphane derenoncourt. Arnione is a bordeaux-inspired blend, with an undeniably tuscan character. It is an intensely bold, dry and well-structured wine composed of 50% cabernet sauvignon, with lesser portions of cabernet franc, merlot and petit verdot. A nose of black and blue berries greets you from the glass, with a herbal undercurrent of eucalyptus and low-lying scrub. On the palate, you can taste notes of blackcurrant and blueberry, accompanied by a smooth tannic structure. It is a deeply satisfying, thirst-quenching wine, with a long, fruity finish. To taste it at its very best, serve arnione at room temperature, with a hearty meal such as beef stew or a juicy steak.
