Established in 2015 in washington state by husband-and-wife team seth and aubrey kitzke, upsidedown is a young winery specializing in rhône varietals, producing a good range of limited-quantity wines from the red mountain area. Equus reserve is a red blend of cabernet sauvignon and syrah, approximately 3 4 and 1 4, respectively. The grapes are carefully selected from the high-elevation equus vineyard, located above the alluvial plains on soils composed of ancient riverbed stones and clay. The vines enjoy an altitude of approximately 430-450 meters, with cool temperatures but excellent southern exposure. These conditions favor slow ripening of the grapes and the production of fresh, balanced wines with well-developed aromatics. In the glass, the wine reveals a dense, deep color with purplish hues. Its aromatic profile is broad and expressive, with notes of blackberry and blackcurrant, followed by herbaceous notes and a touch of chocolate. On the palate, it is soft and full-bodied, elegant and harmonious, with firm, well-integrated tannins and a subtle hint of acidity that refreshes the palate. It is concentrated and smooth, with a long, complex finish. Try it with a hearty red meat or game stew.
