The canneberge is native to north america.
It has always been consumed by amerindians, who collected the berries from august to november and preserved them in peat moss.
The fruit was an essential ingredient in the preparation of pemmican, a traditional amerindian dish made with dried meat, fat and dried fruit.
In those days cannaberge grew spontaneously.
However, some amerindians traded them.
They collected wild fruit to sell it at the market.
It was in 1816 that the first commercial farm appeared in massachusetts.
