Antique Georgian Turquoise Mourning Ring Dated 1795

Crafted in 18ct yellow gold during the late 18 th century, this exquisite antique georgian turquoise mourning ring carries a deeply moving story of love and remembrance. The hallmarks within the band reveal it was made in birmingham in 1795 by the esteemed jewellers alton & shipton to commemorate a beloved individual named h. Wilock, whose passing at the age of 47 is tenderly recorded in the softly faded, but still legible memorial inscription within the band.   At its centre lies an intimate and personal keepsake of the departed, a rectangular glass panel enclosing the preserved plaited brown hair belonging to wilcock, who was perhaps a cherished husband or wife. Surrounding this poignant memorial is a border of vivid sky-blue turquoise stones, symbolising the forget-me-not flower, a traditional emblem of remembrance and enduring love. Two additional turquoise stones adorn the finely engraved shoulders of the band, completing the design with delicate elegance.
