The dimmer automatically finds out whether the lamp uses led or an incandescent bulb. The maximum wattage is 4-100w for led and 25-160w for incandescent bulbs. Nb when it’s time to change or mount a dimmer on a floor lamp, you need to find the lowest wattage. If it’s written on the dimmer 40w-100w , the lowest wattage has to be 40w. Example: your floor lamp has three light sources, and you mount 3 x 8w light sources. Your total wattage is 24w, so they won’t be compatible with a 40w-100w dimmer. In this case, you need to choose an led dimmer with the lowest wattage possible, typically 2-4w.
