Underneath the lamp head is a switch that allows you to control the light intensity according to your needs. If you press the button once when the lamp is switched off, it will switch on the light at the last setting used. If the light is on and you press the button once, the light will switch off. If the light is either on or off and you press and hold the button, the light will slowly increase until it reaches 100% brightness, at which point it will flash twice. If you release and press the button again afterwards, the light intensity will drop to 1% and then flash twice again.
