Are bamboo-organic cotton muslin blankets good for sensitive skin?

Yes. Bamboo adds a silky, cooling touch, while organic cotton brings strength and structure. Together they’re soft, breathable, and gentle on delicate skin. Many parents find this blend helps reduce irritation compared to heavier or synthetic fabrics.

How many swaddling blankets should I pack in a hospital bag?

Bring two large swaddles (around 47 x 47 in) and two smaller receiving blankets (around 30 x 30 in to 35 x 35 in). That setup covers swaddling, burping, and quick cleanups without overstuffing your bag.

What’s the difference between a swaddling blanket and a receiving blanket?

A swaddling blanket is usually larger (about 47 x 47 in) and designed to wrap securely around your baby. A receiving blanket is smaller (about 30 x 30 in to 35 x 35 in) and more of an all-rounder for burping, changing, and light covering.

Are large 47 x 47 in swaddles too big for newborns?

No. The extra fabric actually helps you get a snug, secure wrap with neat folds. Plus, larger swaddles stay useful long after the newborn stage as stroller covers, play mats, or lightweight comfort layers.

How can I keep muslin blankets soft after many washes?

Wash before first use, choose a gentle detergent, skip fabric softeners and dryer sheets, and dry on low heat or line dry. Laundering with similar lightweight items (not heavy towels or zippers) helps preserve the soft weave.

Best Swaddling & Receiving Blanket Deals in the UK: Muslinz and Done By Deer Compared

Why Swaddling & Receiving Blankets Matter from Day One

Bringing a baby home means two things: endless cuddles and a surprising number of messes. That’s where swaddling and receiving blankets earn their keep. They’re the Swiss Army knives of baby gear—comforting for sleep, handy for burping, perfect as on-the-go covers, and gentle enough for sensitive skin. Choose well and you’ll use them every single day, from the first late-night diaper change to months of stroller walks and tummy time.

But not all blankets are created equal. Fabric, size, weave, and even the colorway can change the experience. Below, we explore standout options like Muslinz and Done By Deer—two names that show up again and again when you’re comparing offers across top UK retailers. Want to avoid guesswork and save money? Checking a comparison platform like ZoneOffer can speed up your search and surface the best deals from different stores, all in one place.

Quick Look at Today’s Standout Deals

If you’re browsing for value and quality, a few collections consistently catch attention. Muslinz offers bamboo-organic cotton blends that are soft, breathable, and baby-friendly, while Done By Deer brings Scandi-chic design to everyday essentials. You’ll find large swaddles around 47 x 47 in (great for full swaddles and versatile use) and slightly smaller sets around 39 x 35 in (ideal for newborn-stage swaddling and daily dribbles). Whether you prefer playful Leopard prints or soothing Dreamy Dots, there’s a sweet spot where function meets style—and price.

Spotlight: Muslinz Bamboo Organic Cotton Muslin Swaddle – Leopard

If you want a hero blanket that does it all, the Muslinz Bamboo Organic Cotton Muslin Swaddle in Leopard is an easy pick. The bamboo-organic cotton blend feels buttery-soft out of the package and only gets softer after washes. The Leopard pattern adds a playful twist without being too loud—think subtle, modern, and totally Instagram-ready. It’s generously sized at about 47 x 47 in, which means a more secure swaddle and more ways to use it long-term.

Beyond swaddling, this size doubles as a lightweight stroller cover, a breathable nursing cover, a tummy-time spread, and even a quick-changing mat in a pinch. You’ll reach for it constantly because it’s featherlight, fast-drying, and easy to stash in any diaper bag.

Fabric & Feel: The Bamboo-Organic Cotton Advantage

Let’s talk fibers. Bamboo brings a silky softness and temperature-friendly feel, while organic cotton adds durability and structure. Together, they strike a sweet balance—soft on delicate newborn skin, yet strong enough to hold up after frequent laundering. If your little one runs warm or you’re navigating fluctuating indoor temps, this blend helps keep things comfy without overheating.

Size & Everyday Use

At about 47 x 47 in, this blanket size is ideal for classic swaddles with neat, secure folds. The extra coverage means fewer jailbreaks and fewer mid-nap wake-ups. As baby grows, the size keeps paying off—use it as a play mat, sun shade (with airflow), or a cozy comfort layer in the stroller. It’s a one-blanket investment that sticks around well beyond the newborn phase.

Muslinz Muslin Sets – Aqua Leaf and Grey Cloud

Prefer calm, soothing prints? Muslinz delivers with Aqua Leaf and Grey Cloud sets. These designs lean neutral and soft, which makes mixing and matching with nursery themes a breeze. The multi-pack format is a win for busy parents: rotate one blanket while the others are in the wash, toss one in the car, and keep another in the nursery. When you’re juggling spit-ups and snack crumbs, having backups is priceless.

These sets are beautifully breathable, ideal for layering and safe sleep routines that prioritize airflow. When the routine gets hectic, you’ll appreciate a fabric that dries quickly after a sink rinse and is ready to go again by bedtime.

Why Colorways Matter More Than You Think

It’s not just aesthetics. Color and pattern can mask stains better (looking at you, Grey Cloud), and muted prints like Aqua Leaf feel calming in low-light, late-night settings. If you’re building a minimalist kit or keeping your nursery palette simple, these sets are practical and pretty, which is a tough combo to beat.

Muslinz 2-Pack Muslin Swaddles – Grey (Smaller Size, Big Utility)

Want something slightly smaller for the early weeks? The Muslinz 2-Pack in Grey typically runs around 39 x 35 in. That’s a neat size for newborn swaddles, quick shoulder burps, and stroller-duty wipe-ups. Smaller swaddles make tighter folds easier when your baby is tiny, and they’re terrific “everywhere” blankets—soft enough for faces, light enough to use multiple times a day, and durable enough to outlast the newborn months.

Grey is an underrated hero color here. It hides dribbles and lint better than bright whites and looks fresh even after plenty of wash cycles. When you’re packing a hospital bag or prepping a baby shower gift, a 2-pack like this is a clutch, budget-friendly choice.

Done By Deer Contour Baby Blanket – 2-Pack (Blue and Powder)

If you love Scandi design and clever baby gear, Done By Deer’s Contour 2-packs blend style with practicality. Sized around 47 x 47 in, these are roomy enough for swaddling success but chic enough to use as stroller or crib-side layering. The Blue set feels crisp and classic, while Powder brings that modern, soft-pink tone many parents adore.

The 2-pack format gives you a swaddle for the crib and another for the diaper bag, or one to keep at home and one at grandparents’—always a win. And because the style is subtle, these blankets can evolve into toddler comfort layers without feeling too baby-specific.

Done By Deer Dreamy Dots – Mustard and Powder

Dreamy Dots is a mood: light, airy, and design-forward. The Mustard option adds a bold accent you can spot across a room (great in nursery photos), while Powder stays soft and serene. The generous size supports a firm wrap for swaddling and plenty of use beyond—nursing cover, breathable shade, or floor blanket for playtime. If you’re curating a registry that balances timeless with trendy, Dreamy Dots nails it.

Muslin vs Knit vs Fleece: Which Blanket Type Fits Your Routine?

Think of blanket shopping like building a wardrobe. Muslin is your breathable tee—great year-round, especially for layering. Knit cotton acts like a cozy sweater—warmth without bulk, ideal for cooler rooms. Fleece is your blanket hoodie—super snug for walks on chilly days, but not ideal for swaddling or overnight sleep because it can trap heat.

For everyday use, large muslin swaddles (around 47 x 47 in) are the MVP. They’re light, airy, and endlessly adaptable. For naps and pram strolls in cooler months, a knit layer on top does the trick. And when you’re out in brisk weather, fleece is fantastic draped over blankets or used after you’ve secured the harness—just make sure airflow and safety are top priority.

How Many Blankets Do You Actually Need?

Short answer: more than you think, but fewer than you fear. Aim for at least four large muslin swaddles (47 x 47 in) and four smaller receiving blankets (around 30 x 30 in to 35 x 35 in). That gives you a rotation for the wash, a fresh spare for the diaper bag, and one reserved for clean feeds or on-the-spot spills. If you’re bottle-feeding or dealing with reflux, bump those numbers up by two. Add one warm knit layer if your nursery runs cool, and keep one extra-large muslin dedicated to the stroller or car trips.

Of course, your lifestyle matters. City walkers might lean on larger multi-use muslins, while homebodies might favor a couple of plush layers for lounging. Think about your routine, then stock accordingly.

Sizing Guide in Plain English

Choosing the right size is half the battle. Here’s the simple breakdown: - Large swaddles: about 47 x 47 in. Best for full swaddles, stroller covers, and long-term use as baby grows. - Receiving blankets: about 30 x 30 in to 35 x 35 in. Great for newborn swaddles, burping, and quick cleanups. - Multi-packs: sizes can vary slightly, but a smaller pair around 39 x 35 in is perfect for early weeks and daily mess duty.

If you’re undecided, default to the larger size—it’s more forgiving, and you’ll still use it when swaddling days are over.

Care Tips: Keep Muslin Softer, Longer

Good care keeps your blankets cloud-soft. Wash before first use to relax the fibers, then launder with a gentle detergent. Skip fabric softeners and dryer sheets—they can coat fibers and reduce breathability. Tumble dry on low or line dry to preserve the weave. If you’re battling stains (hello, sweet potato puree), spot-treat promptly and rerun a gentle cycle. Muslin is tough, but it thrives with a little TLC.

Pro tip: Wash blankets with similar fabrics, not heavy towels or zips that can rough them up. Over time, muslin naturally crinkles—that’s part of the charm and doesn’t affect performance.

Safety First: How to Swaddle the Right Way

Swaddling is about snug comfort without restricting movement in the wrong places. Keep the wrap secure across the chest and torso, but allow room for hips and legs to move freely (think “M” shape when knees are bent). Always lay your baby on their back for sleep, and stop swaddling once rolling starts. Want the best wrap? Use a large muslin (around 47 x 47 in) and fold with firm, smooth layers—no bulky bunching.

If your baby prefers arms-up, try a half-swaddle tucked under the shoulders or transition to arms-out. Every baby is different, so a little experimenting helps you find the sweet spot between secure and comfy.

Receiving Blanket Uses Beyond Swaddling

These smaller workhorses are clutch throughout the day. Toss one over your shoulder for burping, lay it down for quick changes, use it as a lightweight shade while you’re out, or fold it into a stroller headrest. When using blankets around car seats, avoid placing anything bulky under the harness; secure the straps first, then drape a blanket over the top if needed while maintaining airflow. Their compact size also makes them ideal as a soft surface during tummy time or as a clean mat in a pinch.

Seasonal Picks: What Works in Summer vs Winter

For warm weather, lightweight muslin shines—breathable, airy, and easy to layer. In winter, keep your muslin base and add a knit layer for warmth. On cold walks, drape a thicker blanket over a safely strapped-in baby for extra coziness. Indoors, focus on breathable layers rather than heavy fabrics; it’s easier to add or remove a layer than to cool an overheated baby.

If you’re expecting a summer baby, make large muslin swaddles your mainstay. For winter arrivals, grab a couple of knit blankets to tag in on colder nights or outings. Either way, your Muslinz and Done By Deer options are flexible enough to adapt across seasons.

Budget vs Premium: Finding Value

The sweet spot for most parents is premium feel with smart pricing—and that’s where Muslinz and Done By Deer deals often sparkle. Muslinz brings high-quality blends and practical multi-packs that stretch your budget. Done By Deer pairs great sizing with chic design in 2-packs, which boosts value and offers instant backups. When you compare prices across multiple retailers, you’ll often spot limited-time offers on colorways like Leopard, Aqua Leaf, Grey Cloud, Dreamy Dots Mustard, and Powder—so keep an eye out and pounce when you see a match for your style and wallet.

Tip: If you’re building a registry or buying in bulk, look for sets that include at least one larger blanket and one smaller one. That mix covers sleep, burps, and on-the-go snuggles without overbuying.

How to Read Product Descriptions Like a Pro

Ignore the fluff and zoom in on the details that matter: - Fabric content: Bamboo-organic cotton blends equal soft, breathable, durable. - Size: Larger (around 47 x 47 in) for versatile use, smaller (around 39 x 35 in) for newborn routines. - Weave: Muslin should feel airy, with a balanced weave that’s soft but sturdy. - Pack size: Multi-packs stretch your budget and keep your rotation steady. - Care instructions: Gentle wash, low heat dry, minimal additives to preserve softness and airflow.

If a listing checks those boxes, you’re in safe territory. When in doubt, choose a neutral colorway set and add one fun print for personality—Leopard or Dreamy Dots bring the charm without sacrificing function.

Gift-Ready Picks Parents Actually Use

Shopping for new parents? Choose sets that cover different sizes and scenarios. A Muslinz Leopard large swaddle plus a Muslinz smaller Grey 2-pack makes a rock-solid bundle—style and utility in one. Prefer design-led? Go for a Done By Deer 2-pack (Contour Blue or Powder) paired with a Dreamy Dots set. It’s practical, gorgeous, and guaranteed to be used daily.

Don’t forget presentation: roll and tie with a soft ribbon, add a handwritten note, and you’ve got a thoughtful, high-utility gift that won’t gather dust.
