If you love frozen treats, ice cream novelties are the little moments of joy you keep in the freezer for a rainy day—or a sunny one. From bite-sized mochi to classic chocolate-coated bars, these single-serve wonders are built for convenience, variety, and a touch of nostalgia. In the UK market, you’ll find everything from internationally famous brands to innovative kits that let you play chef at home. This guide will walk you through the most exciting options, how to get the best deals, and practical tips to make the most of every scoop and lick. Think of this as your roadmap to frozen delight—shortcuts included.
Treat Factory’s Mochi Ice Cream Kit is the kind of product that turns dessert time into a small craft project. Mochi ice cream pairs a soft, chewy rice dough shell with a center of creamy frozen ice cream, creating a delightful contrast of textures. The kit usually includes pre-measured mochi mix, sweetener and sometimes small scoops or molds, allowing you to wrap frozen ice cream into mochi at home. It’s perfect if you’re curious about trying mochi without the fuss of sourcing specialty ingredients. For a family evening or a dinner party finale, it’s fun, interactive and a great way to surprise guests with something different.
Using a mochi kit is like a miniature science project that ends with dessert. Typically you mix the dough using water and the included powder, microwave or steam it briefly until it becomes sticky and translucent, then dust it with flour to avoid sticking. The trick is to work quickly: the ice cream needs to be scooped small—around 1.5 oz portions—and flash-frozen, so it holds its shape while you wrap it in dough. Once sealed, pop the mochi back into the freezer for about 30 to 60 minutes until it hardens slightly. The reward is a tender chew around a cold creamy center—an addictive mouthfeel that’s worth the short effort.
Mochi lets you play with contrasts: think matcha green tea paired with vanilla, or a strawberry center wrapped in a plain rice dough. Kits often encourage a mix-and-match approach, so you can use store-bought tubs—like vanilla, chocolate, strawberry, or more adventurous flavors such as salted caramel or pistachio. Some kits or retailers include pre-flavored dough or flavored coatings, while others stay neutral and let the ice cream shine. If you want to be bold, try a sorbet center for a fruity, dairy-free mochi, or a dairy-free coconut ice cream for a creamy vegan option.
While mochi is trendy, classics never go out of style. Think of chocolate-dipped bars, wafer cones, and messy yet magical ice cream sandwiches. Magnum and Cornetto are iconic choices—Magnum for its thick chocolate shell and Cornetto for its cone-and-sauce combo that’s been a childhood staple for years. Klondike-style squares and classic ice lollies like Calippo or Solero are refreshing and portable. Don’t forget novelty tubs and mini cups by premium brands like Häagen-Dazs or Ben & Jerry’s, which sometimes release limited-edition bars and bites. These mainstays are easy to buy, share, and include in party packs or afternoon snacks.
The frozen aisle has embraced plant-based trends, and you’ll find a growing number of vegan novelties that don’t compromise on flavor. Coconut, oat, and almond milk bases create rich textures that mimic traditional ice cream, while dark chocolate coatings and fruit sorbets deliver bold taste without dairy. Brands are launching vegan versions of classics—vegan ice cream bars, dairy-free cones, and even plant-based mochi kits. These options are great for mixed crowds or if you’re cutting back on dairy. Look out for labels that show fat content and serving size in ounces so you know what you’re getting in flavor density and portion size.
If you love gadgets and hands-on baking, ice cream kits are a brilliant way to level up your dessert game. Treat Factory’s mochi kit is a standout, but there are also popsicle molds, ice cream sandwich presses, and DIY bar kits that let you dip your own bars in chocolate and roll them in toppings. DIY kits are perfect for kids’ activities and social gatherings because they turn dessert into an experience. The key to success is organization—measure your ice cream in small scoops (around 1 to 2 oz each), freeze trays solidly at 0°F, and have toppings and coatings set up on a chilled surface so they don’t melt on contact.
Novelties are often priced per pack, and unit cost becomes the main metric for savvy shoppers. Comparison sites can be a lifesaver when hunting discounts or limited-time offers—use them to compare multi-buy savings or seasonal bargains. Buy in bulk for parties or seasonal stash-ups, but watch out for size and portion counts; what looks like a bargain might contain tiny 0.7 oz pieces, so do the math. Supermarkets often rotate promotions on frozen aisles, especially in the summer, and loyalty programs can add extra value. Small tips—check expiration dates, compare per-ounce prices, and consider chilled delivery options if buying online.
Ice cream novelties go on sale all the time—think summer promos, holiday specials and supermarket multi-buy deals. Buying two-for-one or packs of 6 or 12 can cut the per-item price dramatically, but only if you’ll actually consume them before freezer burn affects quality. Watch for seasonal flavor drops too; limited-edition items can be perfect for gifts or special occasions but may not be restocked. If you’re comparing prices online, make sure the per-piece or per-ounce price is included so you can compare apples to apples when deciding whether a sale is actually worth it.
Even the best novelties suffer if they’re improperly stored. Keep your freezer at 0°F to maintain texture and minimize ice crystals. Store treats in their original packaging or in airtight freezer bags to prevent freezer burn; a sealed container can also cut down on off-flavors. When serving, avoid letting items sit at room temperature for too long—a classic rule is the “30-second patience” for bars: let them sit out for a brief moment so the chocolate shell doesn’t shatter too hard, but not long enough to make the center sloppy. For mochi, serve slightly thawed so the outer dough is tender while the interior stays pleasantly cold. If transporting, use an insulated bag with an ice pack to keep novelties at safe temperatures for short trips.
Novelties are party-ready because they’re portion-controlled and easy to serve. Create a build-your-own bar station: set out plain bars, bowls of chopped nuts, shredded coconut, mini candies, caramel or berry sauce in squeeze bottles, and a warm chocolate dip kept at a warm but safe temperature. For adult gatherings, pair richer bars with dessert wines or coffee—think espresso with dark chocolate-covered novelties or a sweet late-harvest wine with caramel-centered bars. For kids’ parties, shortbread sandwiches or mini mochi work well alongside fruit lollies and small cup portions so everyone gets a taste without a sticky mess.
Not all novelties are created equal nutritionally, but portion control—one of their strengths—helps manage intake. Many brands now offer lower-calorie or reduced-sugar novelties, and sorbet or fruit-juice-based lollies provide a lighter, more refreshing option. Look for servings listed in ounces and check sugar grams, but remember that reduced-fat versions can sometimes compensate with extra sugar. If you’re watching calories, stick to smaller portion sizes—1 to 2 oz treats—or swap in sorbet bites and frozen yogurt tubs that offer tang without the same calorie density as premium ice cream. For balanced treats, pair a small novelty with fresh fruit or a handful of nuts for texture and satiety.
Choosing the right frozen novelty is a little like packing the right gear for a trip: match the treat to the occasion. For quick pick-me-ups, single bars or mini cups are perfect. For creative fun, a mochi or DIY kit turns dessert into an event. For large gatherings, multi-packs and bulk buys keep costs down and guests happy. Don’t be afraid to mix premium and budget-friendly options—sometimes a high-end dark chocolate bar paired with a simple fruit lolly hits the sweet spot between indulgence and refreshment. And when in doubt, try a variety pack. It’s the easiest way to discover new favorites without committing to a full tub.
Ice cream novelties are one of those small pleasures that brighten ordinary days and make celebrations memorable. Whether you’re experimenting with a Treat Factory Mochi Ice Cream Kit, stocking up on classic bars, exploring vegan alternatives, or creating a DIY dipping station, there’s a frozen treat to fit every mood and occasion. Smart shopping—checking per-ounce prices, hunting seasonal deals, and using comparison sites—helps you enjoy more for less. Store your novelties at 0°F, serve thoughtfully, and don’t be afraid to get creative with pairings and presentations. At the end of the day, the best frozen novelty is the one that brings a smile, cools you down and creates a small moment of joy.
