Light Bulbs FAQs
How do I know if a bulb will fit my fixture?
Check the base type stamped on your old bulb or listed on the fixture—common options include E14, E27, GU10, and GU5.3. Match that exactly. For recessed or specialty fixtures, also confirm space and clearance in inches to avoid bulbs protruding or shades bulging.
What’s the difference between GU10 and MR16 (GU5.3)?
GU10 bulbs are usually mains voltage and twist-lock into place. MR16 bulbs with GU5.3 pins typically run on a transformer. If you’re replacing MR16 halogens with LEDs, verify the transformer is LED-compatible to prevent flicker and premature failure.
Can I use dimmable bulbs on a regular on/off switch?
Yes. Dimmable LEDs work fine on standard switches; they just won’t dim. Problems arise only when you put non-dimmable bulbs on a dimmer. If you want smooth dimming, pair dimmable bulbs with an LED-rated dimmer.
Which bulb color should I choose for my room?
Use warm tones for relaxing spaces like living rooms and bedrooms, neutral white for home offices and craft areas where accuracy matters, and cool daylight for task zones such as kitchens and garages. If you’re unsure, neutral white is a great starting point.
Why does one bulb look different from another in the same fixture?
Mixing different brands or models can cause slight color differences. To keep the look consistent, use the same brand and model number across a multi-bulb fixture. If you replace one, replace the set for a perfect match.
