What size inner cushion should I use for an 18 x 18 in cover?

For a full, high-end look, use a 20 x 20 in inner cushion. Going 2 in larger fills out the corners and prevents a saggy finish.

Is oilcloth hard to sew compared to cotton?

Not at all. Use a non-stick presser foot, longer stitches, and fabric clips instead of pins. Oilcloth doesn’t fray much, so simple edge finishes still look clean.

How do I prevent cotton cushion covers from shrinking?

Prewash and dry the fabric before cutting, then press it flat. This relaxes the fibers so your finished covers hold their size after future washes.

Are about 1 in and about 1.3 in locket coins interchangeable in any locket?

No. Match the coin to a compatible locket size. About 1 in coins fit smaller lockets, while about 1.3 in coins need larger ones. Always check the manufacturer’s sizing.

What’s the best way to mix bold prints without overwhelming a room?

Pick one hero print for larger items like cushions, then support it with solids or micro-patterns. Limit the palette to two or three main colors and vary the scale so the eye can rest.

Transform Your Art: UK Deals on Fabrics, Oilcloths, Cushions, and Jewelry Components

Why Quality Art & Crafting Materials Matter

Ever started a project with bargain-bin supplies and wondered why the finish fell flat? The truth is, quality materials do half the work for you. From premium textiles that drape beautifully to inner cushions that keep your sofa looking luxe, the right picks turn “good enough” into “wow.” In the UK, standout options like Scandi Essentials inner cushions, Marimekko fabrics, Arvidssons Textil prints, and Emozioni locket coins are fueling inspired DIY makeovers. If you’re hunting for savings, comparing deals across trusted retailers helps you stretch your budget without sacrificing style or durability.

Scandi Essentials Dunö Inner Cushions: The Plush Core of DIY Pillows

Pillow covers get the glory, but the inner cushion is the secret to a high-end look. Scandi Essentials Dunö inner cushions come in versatile sizes—approximately 20 x 24 in, 18 x 18 in, 20 x 20 in, 16 x 24 in, and 24 x 24 in—so you can dial in the exact shape your space needs. Whether you’re dressing a minimalist sofa or layering textures on a bed, these cores help your covers sit full, crisp, and inviting. Think of them like the mattress of your pillow: supportive, comfortable, and essential.

Choosing the Right Size for Your Cushion Covers

Size picking is simpler than it seems. For a crisp, full finish, choose an inner cushion that’s roughly 1 to 2 in larger than your cover. Using a 20 x 20 in inner in an 18 x 18 in cover creates that plump, designer look you see in magazines. Rectangular options—about 16 x 24 in—are perfect for lumbar support on reading chairs or the center of a bed. Want symmetry? Mix two squares on each side and anchor with a rectangular cushion in the middle. It’s like styling a shelf—balance and scale do the heavy lifting.

Fill Type, Loft, and Support

Not all fills are created equal. A lofty polyester blend gives good bounce-back and is easy to maintain, while a feather or feather-blend offers a soft sink-in feel with a luxurious drape. For living rooms, a fuller, denser fill keeps pillows photo-ready; for bedrooms, a softer loft feels cozy and relaxed. Check weight and loft details when comparing inner cushions—better materials hold their shape longer, resist clumping, and give covers the structure they deserve.

Project Ideas with Inner Cushions

Here’s where it gets fun. Pair a 24 x 24 in inner cushion with a bold Scandinavian print for a statement piece on a modern sofa. Use 18 x 18 in inserts to refresh dining bench seating with seasonal covers. Or make a reading nook with a row of 20 x 20 in cushions in complementary hues. If you sew, you can whip up envelope-style covers in an afternoon. If you don’t, no worries—premade covers and iron-on embellishments can give you a bespoke look with minimum fuss.

Marimekko Cotton Fabric and Oilcloth: Iconic Prints for Bold Makers

Marimekko’s unmistakable prints turn simple projects into talking points. Their cotton fabrics bring soft handfeel and breathability, while their oilcloths deliver wipe-clean practicality with print-forward style. If your home’s vibe needs an uplift, mixing one striking Marimekko pattern with neutrals is a fast track to designer polish. It’s like adding a statement necklace to a classic outfit—instantly elevated.

Marimekko Perennial Cotton Fabric in Caramel–Burnt Orange

Earthy caramel and burnt orange tones are trending for a reason—they warm up a room without shouting. Use Marimekko’s Perennial cotton for cushion covers, café curtains, tote bags, or even framed fabric art. The print’s organic flow plays well with wood, linen, and stone, creating a cozy-modern mood. Pro tip: cut large motifs thoughtfully so the artwork sits centered on your cushion face for maximum impact.

Marimekko Pieni Tiara Oilcloth in Beige

Oilcloth isn’t just for picnic tables anymore. This beige Pieni Tiara oilcloth makes wipe-clean placemats, kitchen table covers, and kids’ craft mats look intentional, not improvised. It’s ideal for high-traffic spots where spills happen—think breakfast nooks or hobby tables. If you’re teaching yourself to sew, oilcloth is forgiving: it doesn’t fray much, and you can make simple edge-turned placemats in under an hour.

Caring for Cotton vs Oilcloth

Cotton loves gentle care—cool wash, low heat, and a press from the back to keep prints vivid. Oilcloth is the easygoing cousin: wipe with a damp cloth and mild soap, then dry fully to prevent water spots. Store both rolled or flat if possible; heavy creases take time to relax. A quick tip for oilcloth wrinkles: lay it flat in a warm room and smooth by hand. Your patience will pay off in clean lines.

Arvidssons Textil Fabrics and Oilcloth: Scandinavian Style for Everyday Projects

If you adore Scandinavian design but want something a touch softer or more whimsical, Arvidssons Textil hits the sweet spot. Their color stories lean balanced and livable, making them ideal for mixing across rooms. From cheerful blues and yellows to grounded beiges, these fabrics and oilcloths let you create cohesion without monotony. Start with one anchor print, then layer smaller accents in complementary hues.

Cirrus Fabric in Blue–Yellow

Blue and yellow together bring effortless energy—think sky and sunlight. The Cirrus print is a natural pick for cushions, runners, and light window treatments where you want movement without visual noise. Pair it with textured neutrals like oatmeal or stone to keep the look fresh, and add a single dark accent (navy or charcoal) for depth. The result? Scandinavian ease with just the right pop.

Ängsmark Fabric in Green–Orange

Green and orange can sound bold, but together they echo nature—leaves and late-summer blooms. Use Ängsmark for accent pillows, fabric baskets, or a statement wall hanging. If you’re nervous about color, keep your palette grounded with cream or tan. Then repeat a single shade from the print (say, moss green) elsewhere—maybe a throw or ceramic vase—to stitch the room together visually.

Kust Oilcloth in Beige

Beige gets a bad rap, but the Kust oilcloth proves why it’s a workhorse. It’s calm, easy to coordinate, and quietly chic. Make wipeable bench pads, outdoor-ready table covers, or a craft table protector. For a designer detail, bind edges with cotton bias tape in a contrasting color—navy or forest green looks tailored and intentional, even on casual projects.

Emozioni Scintilla Locket Coins: Sparkling Centers for Custom Jewelry

Jewelry making adds a different texture to your craft repertoire—literally. Emozioni Scintilla locket coins are disc-like inserts that drop into compatible lockets, letting you switch looks in seconds. They catch light beautifully, making your pendant or charm bracelet a focal point without being fussy. Think of them as interchangeable art for your neckline or wrist.

Clear Innocence Silver Locket Coin, about 1 in

The approximately 1 in Clear Innocence silver locket coin brings a classic sparkle that pairs with everything. It’s delicate enough for daily wear yet bright enough to lift a simple tee. If you love minimal jewelry, this is your go-to: clean lines, refined shimmer, and a timeless feel. Bonus: it layers well with longer chains for that on-trend stacked look.

Clear Innocence Locket Coin, about 1.3 in

Want a bit more presence? The roughly 1.3 in Clear Innocence coin reads bolder, ideal for a stand-alone pendant or a showpiece on a charm necklace. Try it with a mid-length chain to keep things balanced. For mixed-media makers, it can anchor a beaded or ribbon-accented design without looking overdone. It’s one of those components you’ll reach for again and again.

How to Style Locket Coins in Mixed-Media Crafts

Don’t stop at necklaces. Add locket coins to key fobs, bag charms, or framed shadow boxes for a sparkling focal point. Pair them with leather cord for a casual spin, or with satin ribbon for a softer, romantic vibe. If you love resin, you can create a complementary charm with dried blooms or metallic flakes to echo the coin’s glimmer. The possibilities are as open as your imagination.

Complementary Tools and Supplies You’ll Be Glad You Added

Great materials shine even brighter with the right tools. A steady toolkit saves time, reduces waste, and makes your projects more enjoyable. If you’ve ever tried cutting oilcloth with dull scissors, you know the struggle. Invest once and you’ll keep reaching for these essentials with a smile instead of a sigh.

Cutting and Measuring Essentials

Keep a self-healing cutting mat on hand and pair it with a sharp rotary cutter for clean, straight cuts on cotton and oilcloth. A clear acrylic ruler helps you square corners and measure repeat motifs precisely. For curves and tricky shapes, fabric shears with micro-serration reduce slipping. And don’t forget tailor’s chalk or a water-erasable pen—marking saves headaches later.

Sewing, Adhesives, and Finishing

Universal sewing needles handle cotton well, while a non-stick or Teflon foot glides smoothly over oilcloth. Fabric clips beat pins on coated textiles; they won’t leave holes. For no-sew finishes, reach for a strong fabric adhesive or double-sided tape designed for textiles. To level up your cushions, add invisible zippers or envelope backs and finish seams with a zigzag or overlock for durability.

Design Tips: From Mood Boards to Final Stitch

The difference between a good project and a great one often starts before you cut anything. A mini mood board—just a few swatches, a paint chip, and a snapshot—will show you instantly which combinations sing. Let one hero print lead, then support it with solids or micro-patterns. It’s like cooking: bold flavors need calm, reliable sides.

Color Pairing with Scandinavian Prints

Scandi palettes love contrast, but not chaos. For Marimekko’s caramel–burnt orange, pair creamy whites, walnut woods, and a single cool accent like slate blue. With Arvidssons’ blue–yellow, ground the brightness with sand or mushroom gray. If you’re mixing prints, vary the scale—large motifs for cushions, smaller patterns for trims or runners—so your eye has room to rest.

Making Small Spaces Pop with Textiles

Small rooms aren’t allergic to pattern—they just need smart doses. Try two statement cushions and keep the rest neutral. Use oilcloth for a table runner rather than a full cover to show off a pretty surface. In tight entryways, a fabric-covered bulletin board or slim wall hanging adds personality without stealing floor space. Think vertical and you’ll win back square footage.

Budget-Savvy Buying: Comparing Deals Without Compromise

Prices can swing widely across retailers, especially on designer textiles and branded components. Comparison shopping helps you spot genuine value: the same fabric weight, pattern placement, and brand authenticity at a better price. Watch for multi-buy savings on inner cushions and seasonal promotions on oilcloths. Stretching your budget means more projects—without downgrading your standards.

Evaluating Fabric Value

Look beyond price per yard and consider usable width, print repeat, and fabric weight. A wider bolt can mean fewer seams. High-quality cotton has a smooth handfeel and crisp print edges; cheaper cuts may look fuzzy or fade quickly. For oilcloth, check coating consistency—thicker, even coatings resist cracking and feel more luxurious underhand.

Spotting Quality in Inner Cushions

Read the fine print: fill composition, weight, and construction. A well-filled 20 x 20 in insert should feel plump corner-to-corner without bald spots. Double-stitched seams resist bursting and help the cushion keep its shape. If you can, give it the squeeze test; quick recovery hints at long-term loft retention.

Finding Authentic Jewelry Components

Branded locket coins should arrive with clean edges, consistent plating, and secure crystal or stone settings. Check dimensions carefully—about 1 in and about 1.3 in sizes fit different lockets. When comparing deals, factor in presentation boxes or pouches if you’re gifting; small bonuses can deliver big perceived value.

Project Inspirations You Can Start This Weekend

Ready to roll? Here are three simple project ideas that look polished, use the materials above, and won’t commandeer your entire weekend. Pick your favorite print, grab the size of inner cushion that fits your vision, and let’s make your space feel fresh again.

Statement Cushion Set

Cut two squares of Marimekko cotton for the front and back, add a zipper on one edge, and stitch around with a half-inch seam allowance. Pop in a 20 x 20 in inner cushion for that plush, magazine-worthy puff. Mix one bold print with two coordinating solids to layer on your sofa. It’s a fast upgrade with big-room energy.

Wipe-Clean Kitchen Upgrade

Trim Arvidssons Kust beige oilcloth into placemats—about 12 x 18 in is a classic size—and finish with cotton bias binding. Add a matching runner to tie the look together. Spill something? A quick wipe and you’re back to spotless. It’s the perfect combo of practicality and quiet elegance.

Personalized Pendant Gift

Choose the about 1.3 in Emozioni Clear Innocence coin for a bolder centerpiece, drop it into a compatible locket, and hang it on a mid-length chain. For a personal touch, add a tiny initial charm or a birthstone bead. Wrap it in a small fabric pouch made from leftover Marimekko cotton, and you’ve got a keepsake that feels curated and thoughtful.

Advanced Tips: Making Your Projects Last

Durability isn’t luck—it’s technique. Prewash cotton to minimize shrinkage, and press seams as you sew for a crisp finish. For cushions, reinforce stress points at corners and zipper ends. On oilcloth, use longer stitches to avoid perforation lines, and never iron directly—place a pressing cloth on top if you must smooth seams. Small steps add years to your creations.

Sustainability Smarts: Waste Less, Create More

Sustainability starts in your scrap bin. Plan your cuts to minimize offcuts, and keep swatches for coasters, key fobs, or patchwork projects. Choose timeless prints that won’t date fast, so you’ll love them longer. And when comparing deals, consider quality over quantity; one great fabric that lasts beats three that fade and fray in a season.

Bringing It All Together: Mix, Match, and Make It Yours

The magic of crafting is in the blend—pattern with solid, gloss with matte, soft with structured. Scandi Essentials inners give your cushions form, Marimekko and Arvidssons textiles add character, and Emozioni locket coins bring sparkle to your personal style. Choose materials that speak to you, compare deals to save smart, and trust your eye. Your home is your canvas; make it a gallery you love to live in.

Conclusion

From plush inner cushions to iconic prints and versatile oilcloths—plus jewelry components that shine—today’s UK crafting scene has everything you need to elevate your projects. Focus on quality, pick the right sizes, and coordinate colors with intention. Compare deals to protect your budget, then invest your savings in tools that make creating a joy. Build a collection you’re proud of, one thoughtful project at a time, and let your space (and style) tell your story.
