Creating a comfortable outdoor area isn't just about picking a pretty table and cushions — it's about heat, safety, and durability. Patio heater accessories turn a good outdoor heater into a great one: they improve performance, make installation easier, extend lifespan, and keep your family safe. Whether you're looking at tubular infrared heaters like the Hyco models or supporting kits like the Forum Blaze floor stand, adding the right accessories can transform chilly evenings into cozy outdoor moments.
Tubular infrared heaters are popular because they deliver focused, efficient warmth without heating the entire air volume. Think of them as spotlights of warmth — they heat people and surfaces directly, not the breeze. That makes them ideal for patios, covered decks, and small outdoor dining areas where you want immediate, controllable heat. They’re typically slim, low-profile, and easy to mount or stand, which keeps your outdoor design tidy.
The Hyco TH04B is a longer tubular heater roughly 48 inches in length, and it’s designed to cover more horizontal space than its shorter siblings. If you picture a three to four-person picnic table or a narrow balcony, a 48-inch heater will cast a long, even band of warmth that helps eliminate cold spots.
At about 48 inches long, the TH04B is meant for medium to larger seating areas. Expect a broad heat footprint and steady infrared output that’s great for fixed locations like beneath a pergola or above an outdoor kitchen. The length translates into a wider spread of radiant heat, which means fewer units are needed to cover the same area compared with a 24-inch model.
This size works well for long bench seating, restaurant outdoor tables, or a patio area where guests are spread along a single axis. Use it when you need even coverage across 6 to 10 feet of seating, and consider pairing with a floor stand or wall mount to get the angle right. It’s also an excellent option if you want to minimize the number of heaters visible in your design.
The TH03B at roughly 36 inches is a versatile middle-ground choice. It balances compactness with coverage, offering a comfortably wide warm zone without the footprint of a 48-inch tube. This makes it a favorite for modular setups or where mounting options are limited.
A 36-inch heater often hits the sweet spot for homeowners who want flexibility. It can cover a mid-sized table or two adjacent chairs comfortably. You’ll get efficient radiant heat that feels immediate, and it’s small enough to be mounted on a wall or ceiling without dominating the aesthetic.
Choose the 36-inch when you have semi-covered spaces like gazebos, small patios, or balcony lounges. It’s a great pick for renters who need a powerful yet unobtrusive solution. The moderate length means easier positioning and often simpler wiring or mounting compared to the longer models.
At roughly 24 inches, the TH02B is compact and nimble. It’s designed for targeted warmth — think personal comfort zones rather than broadcasting heat across a whole patio. If you need to heat a small dining table, a porch swing, or a workbench, this size is a perfect match.
The smaller length narrows the heated zone, which is ideal when you want to save energy by heating only where people are seated. Because it’s lighter and shorter, installation is simpler, and you can place multiple units to create tailored heat zones without overwhelming the space.
Use the 24-inch model for intimate settings like a bistro table, a single seating area, or a small balcony. It’s also ideal for adding a quick burst of warmth near entryways or by a grilling station where one focused heater outperforms a larger, diffuse unit.
Not every space allows for permanent wall or ceiling mounting, and that’s where a floor stand shines. The Forum Blaze floor stand converts wall-mounted heaters into freestanding units, giving you flexibility and portability without sacrificing stability.
Floor stands are built to hold heaters securely and position them at the optimal height for radiant warmth. The Forum Blaze stand is designed for compatibility with a range of wall-mounted tubular units, providing a stable base and adjustable brackets. That means you can tilt the heater to direct heat where it’s most needed and move it around your patio when seating arrangements change.
When setting up a floor stand, aim for a height and angle that warms people’s torsos and laps rather than blowing heat over their heads. Place the stand on stable, level ground, and keep the heater clear of overhead obstructions. If you’re using multiple stands, stagger their positions to create an overlapping heat pattern for even coverage.
Beyond heaters and stands, several accessories can boost safety, longevity, and convenience. Think of accessories as the unsung heroes that let your heater perform without hiccups — weather covers, protective guards, replacement elements, and smart controls all play a role.
Protective cages are essential if children or pets are present, or if your heater is in a high-traffic area. A cage prevents accidental contact with hot elements while still allowing infrared rays to pass through. Look for guards made of sturdy metal and finished to resist corrosion in outdoor conditions.
Even if your heater is rated for outdoor use, a breathable weatherproof cover will protect it from rain, dust, and UV when not in use. Covers extend the life of finishes and electronics, especially in coastal or highly humid environments. When storing units for the offseason, keep them in a dry spot and use a cover to prevent moisture buildup.
Infrared tubular heaters rely on replaceable elements. Buying compatible replacement bulbs or quartz elements ensures your heater keeps performing. Also consider adding a remote control or thermostat accessory to fine-tune heat output and save energy. Smart controllers let you schedule warming periods or adjust heat from inside the house — super handy on chilly evenings.
Choosing the right accessories is about matching the heater to your space and lifestyle. Think about coverage area, mounting options, safety needs, and how much you want to move the heater around. Start by measuring the area in feet and thinking in terms of heat zones rather than total square footage.
Match heater length to the seating span you want to warm. A 48-inch model suits long benches and larger tables, a 36-inch fits mid-sized areas, and a 24-inch is perfect for intimate spots. If you need to cover a wider area, consider multiple smaller units positioned strategically rather than one oversized heater that wastes energy.
Invest in corrosion-resistant metals like stainless steel or coated aluminum if your patio is exposed to weather. Powder-coated finishes provide extra protection, while sealed electrical components resist moisture. Quality construction pays off in fewer repairs and longer service life.
Check for recognized safety certifications and ensure the electrical or gas supply meets the heater’s needs. For electric models, ensure your outdoor outlet and wiring can handle the heater’s amperage. If you’re unsure, consult a qualified electrician — it’s worth the peace of mind.
Proper installation reduces risk and improves performance. Always follow manufacturer instructions closely, position heaters at the recommended heights, and maintain clearances from combustible materials. When using floor stands, secure the base and avoid placing the heater where gusts can tip it over.
Mount heaters at heights that direct warmth to people’s upper bodies and laps — generally between 6 and 8 feet high, depending on the heater and the layout. Angle the unit slightly downward so the heat reaches occupants rather than escaping above them. If you’re using a floor stand, aim for the same effective angle relative to seating.
Inspect connections, cords, and elements at least once a season. Tighten loose fittings, replace worn cables, and clean dust from reflectors to maintain efficient radiant output. If your heater shows signs of damage or inconsistent heating, turn it off and have it inspected before further use.
Routine maintenance keeps heaters reliable and reduces the likelihood of sudden failures. Think of maintenance as preventative healthcare for your heater: a little attention every few months prevents bigger problems later.
At the start and end of the season, wipe down surfaces with a damp cloth, remove debris from reflectors, and inspect the element for discoloration or damage. Replace covers and store portable units in a dry spot during off-season months. For quartz elements, follow manufacturer guidance for replacing after a recommended number of hours.
If the heater won’t power up, first check the breaker and outlet, then look for damaged wiring or connectors. Uneven heat often points to a failing element or reflector discoloration; replacing the element usually restores even output. If the unit trips breakers unexpectedly, consult an electrician — it could indicate an internal fault.
Combining accessories thoughtfully lifts the whole experience. A 36-inch Hyco heater on a Forum Blaze stand paired with a smart thermostat and a protective cage gives you flexibility, safety, and control. Add a weatherproof cover for between-season care, and you’ve got a setup that’s professional-grade without being complicated.
Use a smart controller or programmable thermostat to run heaters only when needed. Combine that with zoned placement (several smaller heaters aimed at different seating areas) to maximize comfort while minimizing energy use. It’s like turning your patio into a series of cozy islands rather than trying to heat an entire ocean of air.
Portable stands let you move heat to where people gather, and having replacement elements on hand keeps downtime minimal. This combo is perfect for hosts who rearrange seating often or commercial venues with varying layouts.
Choosing the right patio heater accessories — from the Hyco tubular heater sizes to the Forum Blaze floor stand and essential protective gear — turns a basic heater into a tailored outdoor heating system. Think about the size of your space in feet, the seating layout, and how permanent you want the installation to be. With the right combination of heater length, stands, protective cages, and smart controls, you’ll enjoy warm, inviting outdoor evenings without stress. A little planning goes a long way toward comfort, safety, and energy efficiency.
